How can I participate?

In need of inspiration? Want to see how your story would look? Here’s Chloe’s story!

My name is Chloe, I’m 26 and I’m a British freelance translator based in the UK. I translate from French and Italian into English and have lived in France, Italy and Belgium.

In 2019, I was one of the last British trainees at the Council of the European Union where I worked in the English translation unit for five months. It was very interesting to be so central during a critical period for the relationship between the UK and the EU and I was lucky enough to be able to attend press conferences with leaders such as Boris Johnson and Leo Varadkar and report back on what was discussed. On the very last day of my traineeship and on the same day that the UK officially left the EU I met the Council President Charles Michel and asked him a question about how young British people can continue to stay involved with the European Union should they wish to. I even got to take a selfie with him!

Being European has always been central to my identity, and will continue to be. Prior to my traineeship in Brussels, I worked in an Italian school as an English language assistant as part of an Erasmus scheme. Thanks to these experiences, and my love for languages, I now have friends from all over Europe and I will always be grateful for everything that Europe has offered me.
